Meet Your Therapist: Megan Stapelberg

My practice was born out of a simple but powerful idea: children thrive when their thinking minds and feeling hearts are in balance.

In therapy, I bring warmth, presence, and a practical focus.

I help kids and teens regulate their nervous systems, strengthen their relationships, and learn tools to move forward with more calm and clarity. Having worked with expat families abroad and now serving South African families, I understand how context and connection shape every child’s wellbeing.

I am a Registered Counsellor registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa and a Counselling Psychologist registered with the Dutch Institute of Psychologists.

Megan has been great in helping our daughter deal with her anxiety, providing her the necessary insights to unpick her unhealthy behaviours and learn new ones. Megan provides open & regular communication on progress, clearly explaining her strategies, so parents can also provide support. We always felt we were working together as a team to help our daughter. We couldn't recommend her more, and are very happy that our paths crossed at a difficult time.

My Therapeutic Approach

At Between Mind & Heart, every child’s journey is unique. That’s why therapy sessions are personalised to meet your child or teen exactly where they are.

In our sessions, I provide a safe, supportive space where your child can:

  • Explore thoughts and feelings in ways that make sense to them (through conversation, play, creative activities, or brain-based techniques).
  • Understand their experiences and how stress, relationships, and life changes impact their wellbeing.
  • Build tools for balance—learning to calm their nervous system, express themselves clearly, and problem-solve more effectively.
  • Strengthen relationships by improving communication, confidence, and connection with family, peers, and teachers.

The goal is not just symptom relief, but helping your child move toward greater congruence—between mind and heart—so they feel calmer, more present, and better equipped for daily life. I use therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, Teddy Bear Therapy and more in order to reach the goals above.

Are you & your child ready to start the journey?
